MCRH 9/11: Everything Good Ends With Ludacris
and other observations from the studio
I woke up today at 3:38pm for my 4 o’clock broadcast, and luckily only hit two red lights on the boulevard, was in the studio by 3:58 but for the first half-hour was still wiping sand from my eyes, mumbling into the mic, pressing buttons wrong. At least the music remained strong:
Tee Pees 1-12 (Father John Misty)
Sink The Seine (Of Montreal)
I ordered a DVD of the Elephant 6 documentary and was just notified at around 3:30 that it has arrived to my door, so I imagine I’ll have more to say about Of Montreal soon, and will likely go down a very annoying Neutral Milk / Circulatory System rabbit-hole
Fingerprints (Leonard Cohen)
No Rain (Blind Melon)
Don’t Carry It All (The Decemberists)
Warning (Acre Memos)
A school teach from Silsbee, Texas is writing these incredible tracks, no buried credits here. If you want to throw your weight behind anyone…
Also in Silsbee, Texas, this
The Other Woman (Devendra Banhart)
Santa Barbara, 1979 (Roger Neill)
Soundtrack from 20th Century Women. Discussed upcoming local events over this one.
Shenandoah Shakedown (John R. Miller)
West Virginia’s own.
Jim Song (Dr. Dog)
No Eye Candy (Slothrust)
Rock n’ Roll Mountain Troll (Miniature Tigers)
Jet (Paul McCartney)
5:00pm Top of the Hour
Neighborhood #1 (Tunnels) - (Arcade Fire)
Strangers in the Night (CAKE)
One Of Us Must Know (Sooner or Later) - (Bob Dylan)
A perennial top Dylan track for me.
Theme from the Conversation (David Shire)
Score for Francis Ford Coppola’s 1974 film, The Conversation. I got some messages after playing this one from people who love the film, rightfully so.
Sea Horse (Devendra Banhart)
You’re allowed to play two tracks from the same artist if it’s this good.
The Denial Twist (The White Stripes)
Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots, pt. 2 (The Flaming Lips)
Christina Name (William Matheny)
Very excited to see William this Friday in Thomas at the Purple Fiddle.
Breezeblocks (Alt-J)
Ragged Wood (Fleet Foxes)
This Is Love (PJ Harvey)
Weightless (Vaski)
Incredible instrumental
Number One Spot (Ludacris)
This is how you change the world.
Thanks for tuning in! I’ll be doing a special broadcast Thursday at midnight. See you next Monday at 4pm ET along with my guest, Ty McClanahan.
